Let’s Get Rolling

Tuesday, Tuesday. Special cars, special races, special tires. Today we dive into our beloved PT Cruiser, Nissan’s new NISMO family car, and used cars on sale (kinda). It’s a fun one, so grab some popcorn and sit back, because this is Auto x Rewind, baby.

Nothing like keeping your tires round.

What's Revving?

Nissan Premiered the Armada NISMO: With 425 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque, you now can have a family SUV that now has red racing stripes. Man we love NISMO.

Audi removed its 2033 all-EV deadline: We are really unhappy about this. Seriously Audi, nobody wanted a 602 horsepower 5.2L V10. You can hand over all your spare units and we will effectively dispose of them.

The Mercedes-AMG GT XX Concept: We can’t get over the back seats. Do you think the production version will look anything like this?

Car of the day: 1st Generation PT Cruiser

When the Chrysler PT Cruiser showed up in 2001, it didn’t just turn heads, it spun them. People either loved it or didn’t get it at all, but it was pretty hard to ignore. Designed by Bryan Nesbitt, the PT was Chrysler was a blend between a Prowler and a mini van. It had big fenders, a tall roof, and enough attitude to make a Civic blush.

Underneath the styling, it was more practical than you might think. The PT was built on the same platform as the Dodge Neon and came with a 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine making 150 horsepower. It wasn’t fast (yet), but it had character and tons of space inside. In 2003, things got interesting. Chrysler added a turbo version with up to 230 horsepower and a manual gearbox option. Put some track tires on that and the daily commute just got a little spicy.

For a few years, the PT Cruiser was everywhere. It even won North American Car of the Year when it launched.

The hype didn’t last forever, but it sure left a mark.

Auction Watch

2014 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta: Currently sitting at $150,500, this 2014 Ferrari F12 Berlinetta is actually a steal at the moment. If you are looking for a discounted used car, this could be a great option.

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 396: Although Rebel Yell came out 13 years after this green machine, it feels like a fitting song to be playing while you are cruising in your chevelle at 150 km/h.

1973 Volkswagen Dune Buggy: If you already have the family car, a daily driver, a track car, and maybe a couple jet skis than we strongly encourage you to purchase this one, and drive it to the absolute limit. Golf cart alternative or off-roading machine? Someone let us know.
